The Bird Moon was very busy for me with travel and I missed the crocus starting to bloom but I was here to see the first butterflies and then the White Wagtail return in the first week of April. Now as we come to the New Flower Moon, the world is ready to spill petals and colors all over the place. In addition to the spring flowers of tulips and forsythias, the trees begin their orderly cycle of blooms. It begins with the wild mirabelle plums, then the bird cherries, blackthorns (sloes), followed by this site’s namesake, the hawthorn.
This first day of the Flower Moon was our first really warm spring day, where it was sunny and 14ºC (57ºF). I took a long walk in the woods with my dog, Molly, and delighted in the spring air on my skin. I’m patiently waiting for the beech leaves to burst forth, which is an official sign of spring here in Denmark, and is what I use as the seasonal marker instead of the calendar date and Gaelic-named holiday of Beltane.
Wishing you a colorful and rich spring to nourish you.
